Cake Pops

Cake Pops has evolved from Cake balls which itself has a very delightful history. There were leftovers in every bakery, such as cake remnants which are lefty over in giving shape to cakes. Some ingenious cook must have had the idea of mixing frosting and making cake balls. It was a very clever way to use the residues and earn some decent profits. The covering part must have been added later. Hence it cannot be denied that the cake pops must owe its existence to cake balls.Cake pops are incredibly simple to make. You will need some ingredients which are as follows-

Cake Pops Recipe

A medium sized cake

"A medium sized cake"

A medium sized cake

You can go for any kind of cake as a starter. You can try out a vanilla cake or a Chocolate or as a matter of fact any flavor. You can also try Vanilla cake or even Black forest. However do not choose to make exotic cakes since in the end it has to be crushed, so looks and shapes hardly matter. Once the cake is baked let it cool for some time before it is crushed. Crush the cake when it is still warm and you get the cake powder of even consistency.

A can of frosting

"Frosting"

Making the Frosting

You can use any type of frosting which suits your taste and preference. Butter or margarine can be whipped with powdered sugar and a little bit of cornstarch is also being added in between to give a stable consistency without any deposition. Butter cream frosting can also be used. Butter cream frosting can be prepared with the help of granulated sugar but are very cumbersome to prepare. I for myself prefer simple butter cream frosting by beating butter sugar and cream till a frothy consistency is obtained. The more you beat the frostier and fluffy will be your cake pops.

Cooked Frosting

"Cooked Frosting"

Cooked Frosting

You can also use a cooked frosting. All you need is egg whites and sugar and a few flavoring. Heat the mixture in a double walled container and at the same time beating and stirring the egg white and sugar mixture. Always use a beater to stir the egg white and sugar mixture.

Whipped cream frosting

"Whipped-frosting"

You can also use whipped cream and powdered sugar frosting. You can also add a bit of cornstarch to stabilize the mixture. Continue to beat the mixture till you see the firm peak in the center. The whipped Cream frosting is ready for use.

Icings as frosting

One can also use the icings which are used in decorating cakes. You can choose a whole lot of frosting or make them from the scratch by using powdered sugar egg whites and meringue powder.
You would require a few more extra wares like a medium sized bowl, two spoons, Baking Paper ,Wax sheet and of course lollisticks.

The covering glory

"molten-chocolate"

molten-chocolate

You can use any form of chocolate like white chocolate or even caramel. You can also use hard sugar boiled confectionery and toffees. This is the last but very important ingredient which will be used to give the crowning glory to cake balls. So we are done with the ingredients. Take your crushed cake and mix it thoroughly with the frosting you have chosen. Remember to add the frosting slowly and mix it thoroughly with the cake mixture. Do not add too much frosting or you will have a hard stone like cake ball.

The Final act

Next place the mixture in the refrigerator to cool for some time. Take out the mixture, small part at a time and make small balls of 1 inch diameter and place it on a wax covered baking sheet and place it once again in the fridge. The rationale of taking a little portion at a time is to prevent the cake mixture from getting warm and then cracking.
While the cake balls are cooling, it is time for heating the coverings for the cake pops. Take the chocolate, caramel or whichever coverings you have chosen in a saucepan and heat it in a low flame. Remember to have a very low flame or else there is always the risk of the chocolate to get charred. It will be better if you use a double walled saucepan for better control of the heat.

Once the chocolate or the caramel has melted, it is time to take out the cake pops and insert the cake pop sticks in each one of the cake balls. Dip each cake balls in the melted confectionery coating so that the cake pops are covered with an even layer of confectionery covering.

Cake Pops- Delicious temptations

The cake pops are now ready. One of the best things about cake pops is that they are refreshingly delicious and different. There is ample scope for variations which depends upon your creativity. One of my friends has tried honey as a frosting and got very good results. I am thinking of trying it out in my next venture.

"Sparkling Cake Pops"Sparkling Cake Pops

You can also cover the cake pops with different types of sparklers or colors. However if you use any type of color make sure it is an oil based color or else it can rip apart and spoil your cake balls. You can mix the color in cream and use a cone to create unique shapes or designs on the cake balls. Tiny sugar granules or crushed caramel can also be sprinkled to give a sparkling appearance to the cake pops. You can also use different flavored tiny balls or sugar coated Fennel seeds to cover the chocolate covering to give it a more nature friendly look.

We hope your mystery of making cake pops recipe is solved now and you don’t have to ask anyone how to make cake pops.

Cookie Dough Stuffed Cake lollipop

"Cake Pops1"

Cake Pops1

Tasty Delicious Cake lollipop

Cake lollipop has become a very big hit in any party of substance and is a must in any dessert lineup. Cake lollipop seems so simple yet incredibly delicious. However as any jigsaw puzzle which looks simple only when it is solved, cake balls are not so easy to make and requires a great deal of patience and a very steady hand of a surgeon or you would end up by messing up your cake balls. I realized that to my dismay when I tried my hand in making the cake balls. However as the old adage goes, practice makes the man perfect, so in a few attempts you will be making better cake balls than the stuff you see at different bakery and confectionery stores.

Keeping Your Cake Pops Intact

There are certain precautions which one must ensure so that one does not end up with a chocolaty mess instead of a smooth and round cake pops which melts in your mouth. The first precaution which you must ensure is that you use a simple cake as the starter, instead of using a unique and special cake with addendum like dry fruits or cream. Another common mistake which can wreck your cake pops is adding too much frosting. This will make the cake pops slushy and difficult to maintain their shape.

The chocolate which you use is also important. Chocolate shells should be selected keeping in mind the ingredients. If you go for Candy Melts, remember that they contain a lot of Tran’s fat and they are not good for your heart. However they give the vibrant colors to the coverings which are very attractive and appetizing. The dipping of the cake pops is made much easier if you use the above. The baking chocolate bark stuff works equally well too.

Now let us get on with our actual Cake lollipop. You will need the following ingredients

Peanut butter chocolate chip cookie dough

A medium sized Chocolate cake

Popsicle or lollipop sticks

Roll small 1 inch balls of the Cookie dough and put it in the refrigerator with the lollipop sticks inserted in the balls. Mash the Chocolate cake until they are of a similar consistency. Next add the Vanilla Frosting to the mashed chocolate cake. Mix the frosting with the mashed cake thoroughly. Start small if you are making the cake balls for the first time and keep the numbers less to manageable limits.

Take out the dough balls out of the freezer and then roll the cake around them. Be careful when you roll the balls, especially on the region around the sticks. Return them to the refrigerator and let them stay for about an hour. Meanwhile melt the chocolate bar in a double wall vessel till it is of even consistency. Dip the Cake balls one by one in the melted chocolate. If you want you can garnish the Cake pops with grated pistachios or coconut.
